Logos Academy
Logos Academy, a fast growing non-profit private school located in downtown York, was in desperate need of a new facility. The original school was divided into two campuses separating kindergarten through grade 3 from grades 4 through 8. The vision for the school was to unite both campuses under one roof so that resources could be shared.
The design for the 40,000 sf two-story facility includes a cafeteria with warming kitchen, auditorium, library/media center, classrooms for all grades and administrative offices. The team faced many challenges including the tight urban brownfield site that required environmental remediation. It is surrounded by a waterway with a heavily used rail trail on one side and a historic neighborhood on the other making public meetings a necessity. In order to help the new facility blend into the surrounding landscape, the design retains a historic structure as a cornerstone of its overall layout.
This project has been awarded LEED for schools certification under Version 3.
