Josiah Henson Special Parks Project
LSC Design is currently conducting a facility planning process for the Josiah Henson Special Park. The 1 ½ acre site contains the original ca. 1800 Tidewater style plantation house in which Josiah Henson was enslaved before his escape to freedom in Canada. His autobiography inspired Harriet Beecher Stowe’s main character role, Uncle Tom, in her novel Uncle Tom’s Cabin. During this facility planning process, LSC is developing plans for conversion of the house into an interpretive museum-like facility where the public can come learn about the life of Josiah Henson. LSC is working in collaboration with Montgomery County Parks to inform the preservation and restoration process as the house continues through the National Register of Historic Places nomination process and develops a facility plan.
