Historically Sensitive Renovation
The Lentz Farmhouse project included the comprehensive renovation of the existing 1790s structure and its surrounding landscape, an addition that doubled its size, and a new bank-barn style garage and workshop. Some wall framing and mouldings in the original house were saved, but the interior was largely reconstructed and all building systems are new.
Renovations to the existing structure include a new bathroom and kitchen. Dilapidated side porches were reconstructed using railing details traced from the existing.
The new clapboard addition includes a gathering room with stone fireplace, built-in cabinetry, and exposed timbers. Behind the gathering room is a new side entrance to a corridor with closets for laundry and sports gear. The second story of the addition is devoted to a Master Bedroom and Bath.
This project was awarded a 2004 Preservation Award by Historic York, Inc.
