York College - Northside Commons

York College of Pennsylvania (YCP), an independent private sector institution with 4,600 full-time undergraduate students, has always been a proponent of creating a community in which its students could embrace campus life. With enrollment numbers on the upswing, YCP realized they needed to create additional student housing to meet the demands of incoming freshman.

The selected location for Northside Commons proved challenging in several different ways. Located adjacent to a former industrial site, building placement, access to parking and the regional greenway, and maintaining a connection to Main Campus were the top priorities. LSCs land development professionals created a series of footpaths linking the campuses and other nearby activities keeping the new, young students from feeling alienated.

The 5-story, 80,000 sf, 200-bed facility includes common areas and lounge spaces throughout the building, special instructional spaces for a live and learn atmosphere, and a demonstration kitchen.
