York Academy Project Wins Adaptive
Re-Use Award

The York Academy Charter School was awarded the 2012 Adaptive Re-Use Preservation Award. Historic York, Inc. annually recognizes high quality preservation work throughout the community.

Located in the heart of the Northwest Triangle development area of downtown York, The Smyser-Royer building was once home to an iron foundry that produced iron used to build the Brooklyn Bridge, lampposts on Ben Franklin Parkway in Philadelphia, and fences in New Orleans. Today, this historic pre-Civil War building is home to the York Academy Regional Charter School.
